Five barriers to engaging youth in leadership and decision-making in political parties in Yemen


 

This summary aims to assess the extent to which youth involvement in political parties has changed since the 2011 revolution. If there is a change and the extent to which political party youth participate in the decision-making process. And means of improving political parties to give young people the opportunity to take a leadership role. And how to benefit from these parties in continuing the influence of youth on the Yemeni political scene. It also looks at whether youth feel more positive about their ability to effect change through these parties. It highlights some of the structural barriers to the positive involvement of youth in the new and old Yemeni political parties.
The paper reached the recommendations aimed at starting to address the five barriers mentioned in the paper and guides these recommendations:
To party leaders, who control the party's financial resources, prepare the strategy, and define the party's culture, so they must provide space within the ranks of leadership for young members, increase communication with youth bases, and include youth-building programs in the party's strategic plans.
To young party members:
Young members should realize their responsibilities towards themselves and take the initiative to enhance their voice, by making use of youth sections within political parties, forming advocacy youth networks within the party and between parties to build alliances about priorities as young people and benefit from the experiences of young people in other parties.

To the international community: Supporting greater participation of youth in political parties and transfer of experiences from effective participation of youth in decision-making in your countries. Developing targeted capacity-building programs that focus on enhancing the skills and experiences of youth parties and encouraging parties to adopt the strategies necessary for internal reform of parties in order to promote more processes Involvement in decision-making within the party.
